Another simplistic slice-of-life that's the epitome of pleasant diversion.

Hilariously bad. Will go down as one the year's biggest trainwrecks.

The last scene changes everything you saw before. I wish I could see it again for the first time.

★★½★★ Silence
Way too long for how simplistic it is. It may be amazingly acted, but overindulgent is the least of its offenses.

★★★★★ Live by Night
Doesn't have the room it needs to breathe, but it's still highly entertaining and keeps Affleck's streak going strong.

The only Christmas movie worth seeing this year.

There is some fun here, but the plot mechanics only cause the film to overload and misfire.

★★★★★ Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
The magic barely registers with a plodding story, weak characters, and boring leads.

★★★★★ Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Although set in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, 'Fantastic Beasts' is an entirely original and worthwhile beast of its own.

Expertly crafted and acted. This is the year's best film so far. Oscar watch 2016 starts here.
