Why "Let the Right One In" Shouldn't Be Remade

Let the Right One In

Why do we feel like we have to remake any foreign film that garnered the least bit of success in America. The Swedish film “Let the Right One In,” was perfectly creepy being a Swedish film. Do we really need an Americanized version of it? After watching the trailer I get the feeling we’re in for a more blood and guts version compared to the original. Leave it to Hollywood to glam something up for the masses.

The original film, directed by Tomas Alfredson wasn’t just one of the best thrillers of 2008, it should be considered as one of the best movies from that year. In the midst of vampire mania started by “Twilight,” Alfredson was able to take a step back and create chilling vampire tale that adhered to the rules vampires have always lived by.

“Let the Right One In” oozes creepiness. The pool scene is damn near brilliant, why remake it? What’s the point? I can’t see a reason why this remake is anything but a money-grubbing scheme. Remaking this film seems like Hollywood saying “Hey, we can’t really market the foreign film because people hate to read subtitles. Let’s just make our own version and capitalize on the ongoing vampire fascination.”

There you have it. Remaking this movie makes it look like Hollywood is saying we’re too stupid to watch or appreciate the original version. We need a spiced up American version to get us interested. Well, this is one person that’s not interested. Do yourself a favor. Go rent the original and see what I mean.
